Many of the cultural activities in Poland are situated in the large, cosmopolitan cities of Warsaw and Krakow. The Palace of Culture and Science dominates Warsaw's skyline. It houses several museums, and you can travel to the top of the Soviet structure for a small fee. The Royal Castle, located in the Old Town, and the Wilanów Palace might be of interest to those with a passion for the past. If modern history is your thing, then the Warsaw Uprising Museum is a moving account of Polish resistance against the Germans in WW2.
Krakow, Poland's second biggest city, is awash with historical buildings at every turn. Some of the most impressive structures, which are itinerary musts, are St Mary's Basicila, Wawel Cathedral, and Cloth Hall - a town hall home to a pretty Polish art museum. The National Museum in Krakow is also worth a visit for those interested in a comprehensive overview of the country. A visit to Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory is also a moving but incredibly worthy half day experience.
